Talbot Butler Ward - Northampton General Hospital
Talbot Butler is a 24 bedded ward caring for cancer patients along their journey through diagnosis, chemotherapy treatments and radiotherapy treatments.
Patients on chemotherapy sometimes experience adverse effects such as septicaemia vomiting and pyrexia from the chemotherapy and require emergency admissions.
All nursing and domestic staff strive to give good quality care to patients in an emotional state of being diagnosed with cancer and coping with their treatment.
Unfortunately, sometimes patients deteriorate and need palliative supportive care. Members of the multi-disciplinary team become involved with the patient, these include Macmillan nurses, Discharge coordinator, Occupational therapist and Physiotherapist.
The staff and members of the multi-disciplinary team work closely with the patients relatives with the aim of giving physical and psychological support to the patient and relatives when the patient is dying.
The aim of the ward is to make the patients stay as pleasant and stress free as we possibly can and to feel supported through their long journey.
